We work in an industry where the domain knowledge required to function at a high level is so vast and so rapidly changing that a Gladwellian 10,000 hours approach to mastery is not only inefficient, it’s impossible. In fact, the very idea of achieving mastery in our field alone is something of a fool’s errand. The consolation, however, is that we are also part of a community of peers, each with their own unique talents and areas of expertise and nearly universally willing to help others. Whether it’s as a sounding board, a code review, advice, shared learning, instruction with an algorithm or an implementation, or friendly support and encouragement, your peers are your most valuable resource and you, theirs.
